Closing of transaction planned for the beginning January 2019

Today the European Commission has approved the merger of T-Mobile and Tele2, thereby clearing the way for the emergence of a viable mobile-led customer champion. The combined company will continue to disrupt the Dutch telecom market and step up the challenge for KPN and VodafoneZiggo, creating more competition in favor of the customer.

An accelerated 5G launch

Søren Abildgaard, CEO of T-Mobile Netherlands: “I am very pleased with the decision of the European Commission because it is the best outcome for Dutch consumers and businesses. It is great that the EC has acknowledged the specifics of this merger and therefore unconditionally approved this merger. We can now start to implement the promises we made including, an accelerated 5G launch, high speed internet as well as contract freedom for new and existing customers. We will continue to offer sharp prices for Unlimited mobile internet. I cannot wait to get started.”

Combined products

This merger is creating a new strong player in a market that will rapidly develop towards one that is led by combined products of fixed and mobile. T-Mobile has a proven track record to lead the way on innovations. By merging the fixed and mobile networks and great people it will achieve the scale required to smarter invest and drive competition.

Until the official closing of the transaction T-Mobile and Tele2 will remain competitors and nothing changes. In the coming months the focus will be on integrating the companies always putting customers and employees first.

Søren Abildgaard: “This merger is a major step for both companies. We are delighted to join forces with the innovative Tele2 brand and its strong fixed network and their expertise. The process of combining the companies will take a while but I’m personally committed to making sure that this process is handled with care.”
